Wood Sorrel (oxalis acetosella)

Oxalis acetosella or Wood Sorrel as it is commonly known can be found in shady woodlands throughout the area creating a carpet of white flowers in the Spring months around March, April and May.

This plant has easily identifiable trefoil or 'Shamrock' shaped leaves that were once used to flavour food, and small white flowers (8-15mm) that can on occasion be lilac in colour.

Wood Sorrel disperses it's seeds from 'exploding' egg-shaped capsules when ripe.

Wood Sorrel is common throughout northern Europe.
